Creativity is one of my most productive forms of "good" self therapy. What most drives me as an artist is to help people see the value the process can have for themselves. It's encouraging to know that other people are having success getting other...

Can you share a brief bio?
Alisa 's mission is to reveal the power of personal testimony: to heal, bring comfort and encourage spiritual growth. Alisa received her B.F.A. from Pratt Institute and has an M.S. in education. She has worked as both a professional artist and an educator. Dancing in the Doghouse reflects the richness of Alisa’s experience as a creator and teacher. Through words and images, Alisa points to our creator. Her background brings insight and a unique expression for a daily human experience: the presence of God. Alisa invites readers to share their own experience of God’s presence on her website: www.journeyoncanvas.com All images from Dancing in the Doghouse can be viewed in full color, and suggestions for sharing one’s own story can be found throughout the site.
Summary for Dancing in the Doghouse: "Alisa’s life hasn’t been easy. Like most, her past is filled with ordinary (yet considerable) challenges -common things not easily overcome. Looking back, Alisa sees struggle and suffering, but she also finds much hope mingled with it. She can see the hope because she has kept an account of it: on papers with a pencil, upon canvases with a paintbrush, using torn papers, pastels, glitter and ink. Reflecting on this account, Alisa discovers that someone has been with her through it all: an ever-present, personal and loving God. Dancing in the Doghouse shares this hope for the chance that others will see it, know it and share it too. www.journeyoncanvas.com also allows viewers to email Alisa to share and inquire.

I'm an artist and an author. Most of my writing has been done in tandem with the art I've made. I've experienced emotional freedom through writing and creating and I want to encourage others to give it a try themselves. People hold back on using these forms of expression because somehow they've gotten the idea that it's not enough if what they make helps them. They feel it has to be "good" to be worthwhile. My training and life experience begs to differ; it's about the process NOT the product.… Continue

It is my mission is to reveal the power of personal testimony: to heal, bring comfort and encourage spiritual growth. I published my own personal testimony and created a website to help others write and share their own journey. I’m looking to connect with the people who will be helped by what I have shared and encouraged others to share. Therapists are sharing my resources with clients. People are finding comfort when they read about someone who’s not so different from them: struggling people are discovering they are not alone. I want to reach as many people as I can. The Online Therapy Institute looks like a good place to connect with those who would have an interest in what I have to share.

Clifton: A Mission of Hospitality

In the fall of 1991 I was an undergraduate student at Georgia State University. I was a student in the health sciences department and I majored in Mental Health and Human Services.  To be sure all students received hands-on experience, we were required to complete 3 practicums.  And so, approaching time to register for my [...]

Is Online Therapy Finally Considered a Viable Option?

I was recently interviewed by the Stars and Stripes regarding online counseling and the article entitled Tricare Programs Offer Online Counseling posted last week.  Some of you may know that Tricare is offering online services now with a pilot program called TRIAP in which military and their family members can obtain assistance online via [...]

Internet Safety for your Teen

I recently was introduced to an awesome website that I thought I would share with everyone.  The name of the site is the Kristin Helms Internet Safety Foundation and the website is http://www.kristinhelmsfoundation.org/. It is through tragedy that we are privy to such a wonderful collection of tips and information. Kristin met a sexual predator online [...]

How Long is Too Long in the Front Lines?

I recently had a conversation with a colleague who said she just couldn’t find her “calling.” She is a counselor and she knows she was led to help people but she feels she is called to deeply fulfill her vocation- she just doesn’t know what or how. She told me about her jobs [...]
