What interests would you like to share with friends and members of OTI?
I'm an online therapist and mystery writer, working with clients at LZcybershrink.com since 2000. My second mystery featuring recovering alcoholic Bruce Kohler and his friends, a computer genius and a world-class codependent, is in stores as of October 13, 2009.
Can you share a brief bio?
Elizabeth Zelvin is a New York City psychotherapist who directed alcohol treatment programs and had a traditional office practice for 15 years before turning to online practice. She has written and lectured widely about codependency, addictions, relationships, and online therapy. Her mysteries are DEATH WILL GET YOU SOBER (2008) and DEATH WILL HELP YOU LEAVE HIM. One of her short stories was nominated for an Agatha award for Best Short Story. Liz has trained clinicians in online practice skills since 2003. Publications include a book about gender and addictions and two books of poetry.

Therapy, Social Work, and Murder

That's the title of a panel I'll be moderating next week at Bouchercon, the huge annual convention of mystery fans, held this year in Indianapolis. Only the panel title puts Murder first!

In my "other hat," I'm a mystery writer, and my new book, DEATH WILL HELP YOU LEAVE HIM, will be in stores the day after Columbus Day. It's the second in my series featuring recovering alcoholic Bruce Kohler. The first was DEATH WILL GET YOU SOBER. I've used my 25 years experience as a clinical social worker a… Continue

I was a student in the health sciences department and I majored in Mental Health and Human Services.  To be sure all students received hands-on experience, we were required to complete 3 practicums.  And so, approaching time to register for my [...]

Is Online Therapy Finally Considered a Viable Option?

I was recently interviewed by the Stars and Stripes regarding online counseling and the article entitled Tricare Programs Offer Online Counseling posted last week.  Some of you may know that Tricare is offering online services now with a pilot program called TRIAP in which military and their family members can obtain assistance online via [...]

Internet Safety for your Teen

I recently was introduced to an awesome website that I thought I would share with everyone.  The name of the site is the Kristin Helms Internet Safety Foundation and the website is http://www.kristinhelmsfoundation.org/. It is through tragedy that we are privy to such a wonderful collection of tips and information. Kristin met a sexual predator online [...]

How Long is Too Long in the Front Lines?

I recently had a conversation with a colleague who said she just couldn’t find her “calling.” She is a counselor and she knows she was led to help people but she feels she is called to deeply fulfill her vocation- she just doesn’t know what or how. She told me about her jobs [...]
