What interests would you like to share with friends and members of OTI?
My love for my patients, especially the kids.
Can you share a brief bio?
I am a new practicing therapist. I originally started out as a nurse but when the timing was right, I took up mental health studies and here I am today.
There have been a lot of clamor for new ways in psychiatry and treatment of mental health patients, particularly those that tend to manifest only mild symptoms such as Multiple Personal Disorder and schizoprenia.
There are several scientifically based essays that has been published regarding new age treatments of these common but debilitating conditions. Here is a particular video that I would like to share.
Hello, Holly
Thanks also for adding me as your friend. I too am relatively new to the mental health field, though I am in my late 50s. The John Breeding video was interesting. I wasn't aware of his viewpoints as a "movement." I do share some of his beliefs about mental health and psychiatry although I don't consider myself an extremist. I've seen and experienced the value of pharmacological treatments for mental illness, and I've questioned their overuse (maybe abuse), especially in the case of treating children. My previous "life" was as an historian! So, I know a bit about the mental health reform movements in the 19th and 20th centuries. In fact the movement toward deinstitutionalization of mental health care in the last several decades was made possible largely because of new psychiatric drugs. I guess in the end the caution is toward balance and what works best for the individual. And knowing as best as we can whether the client's condition stems from social oppressions or pschodynamic forces or biological or disease etymologies...or a combination of these. It's a very difficult "science." Or maybe an "art." :)
Thanks again for connecting.

I am so excited to receive your friend request. It seems that we are both new to the network and starting a new venture in our careers. I know I can use all the support I can get. I am happy to support you in any way I can. I have some great discounts with vistaprint to get marketing items (business cards, flyers, signs, and more). Let me know if this is something you would be interested in. Also, you may be interested in Ryze (www.ryze.com) another networking site for all business ventures. I have learned so much from that network.
Hope I was helpful.
Your new friend,
Kim
