This sort of encryption/verification seems to be just the thing SL needs for private conversations. Thanks for bringing it up. I'll spread the word around too.

Thanks for the link Trinka. I am not surprised that the article references a program in Canada. Seems as though our neighbors to the north are way ahead of the game! With the help of clinicians like ourselves willing to explore the power of online...

I enjoy my work as a clinician assisting others in understanding the meaning they have given their life experiences and guiding them toward healthier choices. I understand the benefits and impact of connecting with others online and appreciate the demand and respect that our clients have for using the internet as a treatment modality. I look forward to collaborating with professionals who share this understanding and vision for the growth of the mental health field!

"Emerald Viewer" for Encrypted Chat in Second Life

Today I finished out the three day of the CESL conference. I appreciate so much how technology provides a simple and convenient way to connect to others we might no otherwise have the opportunity to network with. My avatar “Tymeless Sands” enjoyed the opportunity to be informed on recent research, counseling and teaching methodology, without the hassle of travel, hotels or organizing my family to accommodate my absence for three days. Bravo to Dr. Marty Jencius and Debra London for being… Continue

Generation X and Distance Counseling... Inevitable Union ;-)

I recently attended the DCC credentialing training in Maryland. It was my first, of what I know will become many encounters with DeeAnna Merz Nagel. She is an amazingly authentic person and I appreciate her generosity in sharing so much of her professional journey. Although I have been immersed in the “online experience” for many years. It was not until I encountered OTI that I fully gained appreciation for the benefit of bridging the gap between my personal and professional experiences. Once ex… Continue

    Clifton: A Mission of Hospitality

In the fall of 1991 I was an undergraduate student at Georgia State University. I was a student in the health sciences department and I majored in Mental Health and Human Services.  To be sure all students received hands-on experience, we were required to complete 3 practicums.  And so, approaching time to register for my [...]

Is Online Therapy Finally Considered a Viable Option?

I was recently interviewed by the Stars and Stripes regarding online counseling and the article entitled Tricare Programs Offer Online Counseling posted last week.  Some of you may know that Tricare is offering online services now with a pilot program called TRIAP in which military and their family members can obtain assistance online via [...]

    Internet Safety for your Teen

I recently was introduced to an awesome website that I thought I would share with everyone.  The name of the site is the Kristin Helms Internet Safety Foundation and the website is http://www.kristinhelmsfoundation.org/. It is through tragedy that we are privy to such a wonderful collection of tips and information. Kristin met a sexual predator online [...]

How Long is Too Long in the Front Lines?

I recently had a conversation with a colleague who said she just couldn’t find her “calling.” She is a counselor and she knows she was led to help people but she feels she is called to deeply fulfill her vocation- she just doesn’t know what or how. She told me about her jobs [...]
